Happy Spring! friends of Casket Cinema,
The Casket rings our early spring with a celebration of urban and rural agriculture with the movie "GreenHorns" on Tuesday March 27th, at 7pm. GreenHorns, (50 min, dvd) "explores the lives of America's young farming community - its spirit, practices, and needs. It is the filmmaker's hope that by broadcasting the stories and voices of these young farmers, we can build the case for those considering a career in agriculture - to embolden them, to entice them, and to recruit them into farming."
In January, Casket Cinema was approached by the artist/farmer Jillia Pessenda Bovino to screen this engaging movie. Jillia is a recent transplant from the pacific Northwest. She is building a new urban farm adjacent to the California Building in Northeast Minneapolis. The California is the sister building to the Casket Bulding. This NE screening will be our neighborhood premeire. It is also the last in a series of three showings of "Greenhorns" she has done in the Twin Cities.
The discussion panel will include Jillia, Anna Cioffi from The Land Stewardship Project, farmer(s) from Stone's Throw, and Jim from California Street Farm. (they will also be available during the meet and greet before the film.)
All screenings hosted in collaboration with The Greenhorns and Stone's Throw Urban Farm.
The Greenhorns documentary film, completed after almost 3 years in production, explores the lives of America's young farming community - its spirit, practices, and needs. It is the filmmaker's hope that by broadcasting the stories and voices of these young farmers, we can build the case for those considering a career in agriculture - to embolden them, to entice them, and to recruit them into farming.
The production of The Greenhorns is part of our grassroots nonprofit's larger campaign for agricultural reform. We are an activist organization that does much else besides. Please take a look around the website.
