How Love Won

Casket Cinema warms our wintry heart with our next screening, “How Love Won: The Fight For Marriage Equality In MN”. This endearing and powerful documentary traces the history of the movement which attempted to outlaw but then slingshotted gay marriage’s legalization in our state. Expertly directed by on-the-scenes capitol videographer Mike McIntee, it captures all the special moments of political bliss for fans of this bill. ‘How Love Won’ won the Audience award at the 2016 MSPIFFand we expect our casket faithful to truly enjoy this story. Special guests for this Casket will be director Mike McIntee and others.

Bikes vs, Cars

Thursday, August 4, 2016 - 8:00pm
Ride your bike into our 9th season with a special outdoor screening of the award winning film, "Bikes vs. Cars" on Thursday August 4th at 9pm in the parking lot of the Casket Arts Building. The Casket building will be hosting its first "Summer Shindig" with food trucks, visiting artists and festivities from 5pm-10pm. Our season premiere film, "Bikes vs. Cars" is a dutch movie that looks worldwide at the confrontation between bicyclists and the auto industry. Director Fredrik Gertten interviews bike activists and automotive insiders for an in-depth look at the battles each are fighting for bike rights or more cars to sell. Special guests for the evening will be the NE bike shop "Recovery" owner, Seth Sattmueller, and others to be announced. They will take questions after the film with Casket Cinema co-founder and the Roadkill bike club President Wilbur Ince.

Short films from Burning Man

During Art-A-Whirl, on Saturday, May 21st, Casket Cinema will wrap its’ 8th season with a dynamic program of “Short films from Burning Man”! This is a RARE Saturday night feature, not to be missed! These selections will go deep underneath the Playa to show us the many facets of one of the biggest transformational parties on Earth. Casket Cinema will highlight the artists, the volunteers, the builders and the dreamers of Burning Man. This showcase will shine a light through the stereotypes of what many people and the media think of what Burning Man is. It will reveal the profound effect the burn has on many of its’ participants.

The Interrupters

On Thursday March 31st, Casket Cinema returns to its diet of hard hitting documentaries with the award winning film, “The Interrupters”. This movie is about three individuals who work to protect their Chicago community from the violence they once deployed. They call themselves “Interrupters” and their work and dedication shows how every angle to peace is needed to create a more just and safe city. This film has been called brave, humble and at times even funny. Director, Steve James and Alex Kotlowitz, have constructed a very compelling story of regular people working against violence.

We open our Fall 2015 Casket Cinema with the Canadian food documentary “Just Eat It” on October 8th at 8pm. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to eat expired food or out of a dumpster for 6 months?  Are you concerned with food waste? If so this is the perfect film for you.  

Art-A-Whirl Showcase

Griefwalker

For the next Casket we live up to our name with the Canadian documentary ,“Griefwalker”. We hope you can all make Griefwalker” Thursday, March 5th, art reception at 6:30pm. Film at 8pm.

Special guests are Artist Maggie Griffin, spoken word artist Jennifer Kohnhorst and therapist Adam Chase. They will be joined post-film with Casket Cinema co-founder/host Mark Wojahn.

Donation of $5-10 will go to a pay the filmmaker.

Growing Cities
