Casket Cinema kicks off our 11th season with a special Friday night screening. We will be showcasing 2 sneak peeks of clips from docs about population and parent (or non-parent) hood. The films are “8 Billion Angels” and “To Kid or Not To Kid”. Each film is still in post-production and will be premiering at festivals next year. After the screening we will be simulcasting conversations with the filmmakers. This unique evening is the brainchild of Casket Cinema veteran Dave Gardner and casket co-founder Wilbur Ince.

We continue to dig deep at Casket Cinema on the effects of climate change with a special Saturday screening of Running On Climate on October 8th at 8pm.
This award winning documentary reveals the climate fight happening in Vancouver, British Columbia. The film gets personal as it follows the Green party candidate & scientist, Dr Andrew Weaver as he runs for political office. This inspiring story will reveal tactics that could swing other third party candidates to victory in our mega-election in November.

On Thursday April 28th, Casket Cinema is happy to present the Academy Award nominated documentary “The Salt of the Earth”. This movie is about the life of acclaimed international photographer Sabastio Saldago. The film explores his major photographic series and the impact his photographs may have had on the world. The film reveals how his photojournalism have affected him, his family and has lead him to the environmental work he is currently executing with his wife in the Brazilian Rain forest. The film is co-directed by Wim Wenders and Sabastio’s son Julian.

The human scale questions our assumptions about modernity, exploring what happens when we put people into the center of our equations. For 40 years the Danish architect Jan Gehl has systematically studied human behavior in cities. His starting point was an interest in people, more than buildings – in what he called Life Between Buildings. What made it exist? When was it destroyed? How could it be brought back? This lead to studies of how human beings use the streets, how they walk, see, rest, meet, interact etc. Jan Gehl also uses statistics, but the questions he asks are different.
