Saturday, May 17, 2014 - 7:30pm

On Saturday May 17th, 8pm during Art-A-Whirl, Casket Cinema will wrap up its 6th season of films with the feature documentary TATTOO NATION. This film goes in depth with the origins of Black & Gray tattoo with narration by LA Ink’s Corey Miller and features interviews with Danny Trejo, Freddy Negrete, Chuco Caballero and many others. It interviews the original artists from the 1970’s latino scene and shows how these tattooists worked with Ed Hardy in making Black & Gray style what is it today.

Local tattooists, Spencer Hodgson and Aleksandar from Northeast Tattoo will be available for the post film Q&A. Our special post film Q&A's takes the mission in our movies to a very personal place. We believe the act of sitting down and talking about issues is part of our responsibility as citizens and a prelude to action. The shops will bring examples of their flash art and pass out promotional material.

Film Synopsis:

For years people saw tattoos as a sign of rebellion. A middle finger salute to the rest of the world. Outlaw bikers got tattoos. Sailors on leave in Singapore got tattoos. Lifers in the joint got tattoos. But now in the United States one out of every three adults under forty has a tattoo! So what happened? How did tattoo go from something that was put on you to an expression that comes from within you? Tattoo Nation tells the story of a few people who helped transform the world of tattoo, and the way we think about tattoos, forever. This is the true story of the ink revolution.
